I am frequently asked about why print cost are so high when having your senior portrait taken. With the market flooded with one hour photo stores, people are often quick to compare print cost of one of these mini-labs to that of a professional photographer.
Higher print cost come with having options. Camera and studio equipment are very expensive. The more props and backdrops a studio has, the more overhead cost they have. But also one must understand the difference between quick lab printing to custom color control printing. Professional labs have the ability to offer both options. If you are having your child's soccer picture taken, chances are package prices are cheaper than if you are having your child's senior portrait taken. The reason for this, is not only about volume but also about custom color control printing. Most professional labs offer both choices to photographers. Which route a photographer takes, often depends on the quality of the print the photographer and customer are satisfied with.
With The Picture Lady, you now have both choices of Economy Printing and Custom Color Control Printing. Although I am quick to recommend using the more professional services, I understand there are some who just can't afford this service. And in order to compete with these studios who offer prints at lower prices, I am now offering Economy Printing. However, do not be fooled by those who will tell you they print pictures at a professional lab. Although this may be true, these printing services are equal to that of a mini-lab found in your local department store.
